It was standing room only in the Anglican Cathedral of St Michael and St George on the morning of the Day of Reconciliation, Tuesday 16 December, for the ordination of three deacons and nine priests.

The candidates' Archdeacons presented them to Bishop Ebenezer Ntlali. For individual pictures click here.

The candidates prostrated before the altar during the Litany.

The service and hymns were in English and isiXhosa. Lesley-Ann Foster read the Second Lesson in Afrikaans.

Charles Lagan, Rector of King William's Town, who had conducted the Ordinands' Retreat, delivered the sermon.

Order of Simon of Cyrene

Ann Berning, the widow of the late Michael Berning, received on his behalf the Order of Simon of Cyrene, the highest award given to lay people in the Anglican Church of Southern Africa, in recognition of his lifelong work for the Cathedral in many capacities, as well as for his devoted care for church archives held at the Cory Library.
