Ordination of Deacons and Priests, 16 December 2011

On 16 December 2011 Ebenezer Ntlali, Bishop of Grahamstown, ordained four deacons and three priests in the Cathedral in Grahamstown.

The singing was led by the choirs of the Cathedral...

and Holy Cross Mdantsane,

as well as the Cathedral marimba players.

The ordination candidates:

Deacons: Penny Schultz, Tsepo Moletsane, Monde Makhandula, Wezo Bloko.

and priests: Pat Wells, Kazeka Somhlahlo and Thato Monaheng.

The ordination candidates prostrated themselves during the singing of the Litany.

The preacher was Mzikazi Mfenyana, Rector of St Philip Gompo and Archdeacon of East London East.

Wezo Bloko was the first to be ordained Deacon. He was licensed to St Augustine's Grahamstown.

Monde Makhandula from Zwelitsha was ordained Deacon and licensed to St Clement's Grahamstown.

Deacon Tsepo Moletsane is to serve at Holy Cross Mdantsane.

Penny Schultz of St Paul's Port Alfred was ordained Deacon.

When the priests were ordained, other priests present gathered round the Bishop to join him in laying hands upon them.

Thato Monaheng was ordained priest. He ministers in the parish of St Peter Sidbury.

Kazeka Somhlahlo of Holy Cross Mdansane, now a priest.

Priest Pat Wells will continue her ministry at St Andrew's Bedford.

New members of Chapter, and those with new roles on Chapter, were presented to the Bishop and conducted to their stalls by the Dean.
They are, from left to right: Canon Bubele Mfenyana, lay Canon Stephanie Hendrikse, Canon Theologian Abiaaza Kibirige, Canon Lulama Ntshingwa, Archdeacon Zamile Dlanjwa, Archdeacon Mzikazi Mfenyana, Archdeacon James Rusch, Archdeacon Peter Mtuze and Canon Simphiwe Magxwalisa.

The new Lay Canon, Stephanie Hendrikse, is a parishioner at Good Shepherd East London.

After the Eucharist, the newly ordained rejoiced with the Bishop and their families.
