Ordination of Deacons, 24 September 2010, St Philip Gompo

On 24 September 2010 Ebenezer Ntlali, Bishop of Grahamstown, made history when he ordained twenty deacons at one service. 16 of these men and women were ordained as Permanent Deacons. It was the first time an ordination had taken place in St Philip's Church in Gompo, East London.

During the Litany, the candidates prostrated themselves.

The church was full to capacity with about 1000 people, and a further 200 were outside.
